Hallenberg - Liesen

At the southeastern edge of the Rothaargebirge, in the area of the nature reserve of the "Medebach Bay", close to the Hessian border, lies the small town of Hallenberg. Today Hallenberg is the third smallest town in Westfalen with a total of about 4700 inhabitants in its districts Hallenberg, Braunshausen, Hesborn and Liesen. The district of Liesen in the beautiful valley of the Liese was first mentioned in a document in 1313 and has retained its rural character. This has allowed the village to develop into a vacation paradise without any industry. Special mention should be made of the nature trail Liesetal, which offers interesting insights into the history of Liesen and the special features of the FFH area Liesetal-Hilmesberg.

Not far from here, those interested in culture will get their money's worth. Every year, the Hallenberg open-air theater stages performances worth seeing in a former quarry, which have made them famous far beyond the borders of Hallenberg.
