Pilgrimage town Werl

The Hanseatic city of Werl is located on the Hellweg, the old trade route. The excellent soil quality of the Hellwegbörde and rich brine springs have established a settlement here very early. Agriculture is still a defining factor for the landscape and life in the region today. In Westönnen, the cultivation and processing of white cabbage led to the affectionate name sauerkraut village. The idyllic village center with church and Ketteler Park is characterized by walls and buildings made of green sandstone. On the cycle path to Werl lies the Erbsälzergut Haus Lohe, which is part of the village.
