The municipality of Schalksmühle in its current borders was created in 1969/70 by merging the former municipalities of Schalksmühle and Hülscheid and the district of Im Dahl, which originally belonged to Breckerfeld. However, the history of our village goes back much further. The medieval and listed churches in Hülscheid and Heedfeld as well as the "Bauernhaus Wippekühl", which was built around 1600 and is now used for cultural events, are worth a visit at any time.
The community of Schalksmühle has attractive local recreation areas, such as the Glörtalsperre and the Mesekendahl game reserve, which are popular destinations for excursions.
The meadow and wooded areas of the municipality invite you to go hiking and cycling on scenic and varied circular routes.
