In 2010, the city of Hemer hosted the NRW State Garden Show, welcoming more than 1,050,326 guests. The state horticultural show gave rise to the Sauerlandpark Hemer, an approximately 27-hectare leisure and recreation area. The main attractions of the State Horticultural Show, such as the Jübergturm, the Park of the Senses, the theme gardens or the Rollgarten (skate park) have been preserved. The wide open spaces around the park, crisscrossed by paved paths, are grazed by Heck cattle and wild horses and are an inviting place for an excursion. In the Sauerlandpark and the associated Grohe Forum, numerous events take place throughout the year.
