Hemer

The town of Hemer was first mentioned in a document in 1072. Originally, the city was characterized by agriculture and mining and gained economic importance from the 15th century through flourishing forges, wire and paper industry.

Hemer has about 38,000 inhabitants. In 2010, the city hosted the NRW State Garden Show, which resulted in the Sauerlandpark Hemer, an approximately 27-hectare amusement park.

This recreational area is also home to the Felsenmeer, Hemer's most famous attraction. The unique geotope formed from collapsed caves is, like the neighboring stalactite cave "Heinrichshöhle", a popular excursion destination in the region.
