The Gambach pond in Freudenberg is an important testimony to the region's economic history. Originally, it served as a source of energy for the oil, circular, bone and loam mills and was crucial for the operation of the hammer mills, which produced the renowned Freudenberg steel well into the 19th century. In addition to its industrial importance, the pond was also used for fish farming. Between 1927 and the 1950s, it was home to a public outdoor swimming pool that attracted the local population. Owned by the town of Freudenberg since 1973, the pond continues to be used for fish farming. A comprehensive renovation in 2015 further increased its functionality and attractiveness. The Gambachsweiher is not only a place of recreation, but also a living piece of history that reflects the development of the region.
