Discovery of the brine spring: an unexpected find during drilling
A treasure lay dormant deep underground in Suderlage: a hot, salty spring. Its discovery in the early 20th century laid the foundation for today's Bad Waldliesborn spa. While drilling for coal in 1900, this unexpected surprise was discovered at a depth of 912 meters. The salt water had a temperature of around 38 degrees Celsius and a salt content of 10.4%.

Birth of the spa: the brine spring laid the foundation stone for the Bad Waldliesborn spa
The discovery of the brine spring was a turning point for the region. The Hamburg merchant Wilhelm Eichholz recognized its potential and founded the Bad Waldliesborn spa in 1904. The healing effects of the brine spring attracted numerous visitors and made Bad Waldliesborn a well-known spa resort.
