The Soest Green Sandstone Museum is dedicated to the origins and formative role of the eponymous stone in the region's building culture. Housed in a listed half-timbered barn on the site of the Westfalen cathedral building lodge at St. Maria zur Wiese, the museum documents the geological origin and versatile application of green sandstone. The exhibition presents a comprehensive stone collection as well as architectural fragments of buildings from the district of Soest that no longer exist. It also sheds light on the history of the Dombauhütte and professional stone processing. Vivid illustrations provide visitors with well-founded insights into the history of the material and its significance for the historic townscape of Soest.
