The Lenneroute to the estuary is characterized by a succession of historical buildings, including castles and fortresses, which reflect the history of the region. In addition, striking testimonies to industrial culture provide in-depth insights into regional development. Later in the route, cyclists pass through urban centers that reveal the dynamic fabric of the Ruhrgebiet. The final section of the tour offers a phase of recreation along tranquil paths, far away from the urban hustle and bustle, where the Lenne flows into the Ruhr. The main route can be supplemented by various extension options, whereby the entire infrastructure is of a high standard. The initial course of the Lenneroute leads primarily along dedicated cycle paths and traffic-calmed side roads. There is also a varied selection of refreshment stops along the entire route.

Safety guidelines

The first half of the Lenneroute runs mainly on cycle paths and quiet side roads.

Between Werdohl and Iserlohn-Letmathe, cyclists are increasingly routed along roads with heavier traffic. Work is currently underway to improve the route by building new cycle paths or relocating some sections of the route. The very good rail connection between Werdohl and Iserlohn-Letmathe provides a bridge over the critical areas. We particularly recommend this for families with children.
For the more experienced cyclist, the "Fernblick variant" from Werdohl to Burg Altena offers a unique "high-altitude experience".

In the Hagen area, the route runs almost continuously on a paved cycle path to the mouth of the Lenne.

The majority of the route is asphalted. The few sections on unpaved forest, field and riverside paths are easy to master topographically. With the exception of the few days when there is snow, the route is easy to cycle all year round.

If detour are in place, you will find them at www.lenneroute.de
