Hiking experiences around Afholderbach

The "Afholderbacher Weiher" hiking parking lot is the starting point for numerous hikes and walks. The A 4 is the start of a beautiful circular route that first leads along the Alte Netphe stream through a meadow valley. It then runs alongside the pond through the forest back to the starting point. With a total length of around 5 km, the A 4 circular trail is easy for families to manage. From the hiking parking lot, you can also reach the Iron Road, an old trade route that was once used to transport goods such as charcoal, and the nature park jewel "Waldinformationszentrum Forsthaus Hohenroth" with an adjoining fallow deer enclosure and café. You can also go to theGinsberg Heidand there you can walk from Ginsburg and Gillerberg tower or you can hike to Sohlbach and the hilltop with the remains of Graf-Gerlachs-Burg. It is also worth taking a hike to the Alte Burg, a former Celtic fortress of which the outer ramparts are still visible today. On the way there, there are beautiful views of the Siegerland region.

Further hiking options:

Circular trail A 6 (2.5 km): Short loop from the hiking parking lot through the adjacent Wiesental valley.

Circular trail A 3 (4.5 km): The short walk takes you around the Nöchel past Sohlbach back to the starting point.

Circular trail A 5 (2 km): The loop runs along the Alte Netphe stream around the Afholderbacher Weiher pond.

From the hiking parking lot, you can also join the seventh stage of the Talsperrenweg (x 3) or tackle the Netphener Rundweg. This runs in a large arc around the Johannland community and passes the Sieg-Eder and Lahn springs.
