Since there was no rescue station in southeast Westfalen to take care of injured birds of prey and owls in need of help, Wilfried Limpinsel founded a release station for birds of prey and owls in Marsberg-Essentho in 1980 with the approval of the responsible authorities (environmental office and district government) and with the endorsement of the State Institute for Ecology, Land Management and Forests NRW (LÖBF).

The release station (bird care station) in Marsberg-Essentho has been successfully operated for 25 years. Due to the high profile, the number of birds in need of help, which are nursed back to health here and released back into the wild, is constantly increasing. So far, more than 2000 animals have been delivered.
It concerns a large species spectrum; from the kestrel to the passing through osprey, from the again naturalized eagle owl to the tawny owl.
