A 43-hectare game reserve adjoins the outdoor area of the Hohenroth Forest Information Center. This was set up in 2005 by the Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz NRW and is home to European red deer and Mesopotamian fallow deer. The fenced forest area with meadows, flowing waters, springs and varied forest stands offers the animals a natural habitat. The red deer and Mesopotamian fallow deer find grazing, rest and retreat opportunities here.
The game can follow their needs undisturbed throughout the day and year. Every day, the animals eat between eight and 20 kg of fresh greenery or hay, as well as acorns, beechnuts, tree bark and buds. Except in times of real need, there is no supplementary feeding. From a rainproof and barrier-free observation point, visitors have an excellent view of a large clearing in the enclosure.
