"Anno 1713. Saint Nicalaus pray for us and help us over water and land", reads the inscription of the monument "Stone Cross". It is possible that at the present location, not far from this hiking parking lot, there used to be a resting place of the long-distance trade route between Siegen and Paderborn. In honor of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of merchants and carters, the Stone Cross was erected there, asking for a safe journey. Even today, the historic road is used as a hiking trail (Kriegerweg).
Round hiking tip Oberhundemer Nordtour: In addition, the hiking parking lot "Steinernes Kreuz" is a good starting point for the approximately four-hour Oberhundemer Nordtour, which leads you to the Alpenhaus, with a possible stop. Further information about the hike can be found here.
Round hiking tip Saalhauser Höhenweg: Past the Steinernen Kreuz, the round leads into rustling forests and to great views, which can also be enjoyed from comfortable benches. The description of the trail can be found here.
