The Holthausen Museum displays parts of the work of Heinrich Holthausen, a sculptor who died in 1980 and who also worked in Plettenberg for a time and is buried there.
It was set up in Plettenberg between 2009 and 2015 by the architect Helmut Teichert.
The aim and task of the museum is to preserve and publicize the work of Heinrich Holthausen. The museum contains around 250 inventory items from Helmut Teichert's estate, perhaps most notably the numerous original plaster casts that served as models for bronze sculptures, which can now be found in public spaces in various locations, including Hagen and Plettenberg.
It is financed exclusively by private supporters, in particular, now in its second generation, by the Schauerte family from Plettenberg.
The studio or workshop character of the museum, which serves both for presentation and storage, is remarkable; everything is on display.
