Dominating the town of Meinerzhagen, situated on a hill, is the important Romanesque church of Meinerzhagen. The Jesus-Christus-Kirche is an "open church" and is therefore a spiritual retreat with the opportunity to escape from everyday life, at least for a short time.

Meinerzhagen was first mentioned as a parish in 1174. This gallery basilica is the only example of this type of building in the Märkischer Kreis and dates back to the first half of the 13th century. The choir of Meinerzhagen church was remodeled in the 15th century, the German late Gothic period. The west tower was built in the 19th century. The construction of the Ev. Jesus-Christus-Kirche, formerly Our Lady's Church, is just as remarkable from a cultural and historical point of view as the eight-sided baptismal font with medieval column supports in the apse.
