Kindelsberg

Observation tower

Kindelsberg - landmark of the northern Siegerland. The 618-metre-high Kindelsberg has always been a defining symbol of the local population and has been a popular hiking and excursion destination since the 19th century, where many singing and gymnastics festivals have been held. Many clubs around the Kindelsberg and also the Krombacher brewery bear the tower as a symbol in their coat of arms.

The observation tower on the Kindelsberg was built in 1907 by the Sauerland Mountain Association. 123 steps lead up to a platform from which you can see as far as the Siebengebirge near Bonn in good weather. Four panorama boards provide information about what can be seen in the surrounding area. The rustic Kindelsberg rest stop offers Siegerland specialties as well as a freshly tapped Pilsner.

Kindelsberg trail

The approximately 14 km long circular hiking trail runs along the south-east side of the Kindelsberg. It can be accessed at various points. The numerous old mines on Kindelsberg and Martinshardt as well as other points of interest along the way are explained on 24 information boards.

The legend

The Kindelsberg was a fertile breeding ground for all kinds of legends, which can be attributed in particular to the remains of a historic rampart dating back to the High Middle Ages (11th/12th century). Click here for the legend "Das Fräulein vom Kindelsberg"
