The drinking water for the town of Brilon is dammed spring water in the Schmahlatal valley. A lake, also known as the Silbersee, is a popular hiking destination due to its beautiful location. The hiking trail "Schmahlatal-Rundweg" marked with the B1 leads directly past the lake. From the Feuereiche on the Rothaarsteig, you can reach the lake after crossing the country road along the lower forest path.
