Sculpture "What was first?" by Magdalena Jetelová

57319 Bad Berleburg

The artist Magdalena Jetelová symbolizes the origin of life and its eternal cycle with a 6.5 m high golden egg of around 4 m in diameter. Its size and light reflections make it so present that the egg, as the starting element and original form of life, has an effect on the landscape and becomes part of it. Reduced to its essentials, it becomes a sign and symbol of nature, which produces and sustains life.

A reinforced concrete foundation was built to ensure the stability of the sculpture, while the stability of the sculpture itself is guaranteed by a steel skeleton inside. The surface is made of synthetic resin or cast resin with a glass fiber insert and was modeled in Magdalena Jetelová's studio using a laminating process and covered with gold leaf.
