The "Biggesee" cycle route extends over a length of 20 km. The route is particularly suitable for families, tourists and leisure cyclists thanks to its continuous asphalt construction and an altitude profile of around 280 m. But there is also a lot to discover, including for local Hansestädt locals.

Anyone who thinks the "Biggesee" cycle route is new is mistaken; the "Biggesee" cycle route feels as old as the Biggesee dam itself and enjoys great popularity, especially in the increasingly bright spring days, the warm summer season and the golden fall. But why is the "Biggesee" cycle route in Attendorn signposted with its own themed logo?

Quite simply, the Hanseatic town of Attendorn has created four themed routes of its own. These include the "Repetal" cycle route, the "Berg und Tal" cycle route and the "Ennest" cycle route. These four themed routes are linked by connecting routes so that you can cycle once around Attendorn.

Information

Directions

We would like to start our little tour at the Biggedamm in Attendorn. This was built between 1957 and 1965 and measures 52 m in height and around 640 m in length. Our tour takes us below the "Biggeblick", a landmark and Aussichtsplattform Biggeblick, where you can gaze far into the distance. We continue along the "Waldenburg" lido, which invites you to linger in the warm sand or cool off in the Biggesee. A small restaurant provides refreshments. If you want to try out a new trend sport, you can go stand-up paddling here.Let's continue our journey in the direction of Burgruine Waldenburg. Our tour takes us along the Biggerandweg to the Bremge reservoir. Anyone who thinks there is nothing to discover in Bremge/Biggesee is wrong. Here you will find a 200-year-old "Backes" with an original stone oven where fresh bread is baked at Whitsun. We continue our tour over the Sondern viaduct and ride past the "see:sicht" restaurant, which offers refreshments, drinks and a wonderful panoramic view.Back towards Attendorn, after a short descent, we are greeted by the loud roar of engines. Next to our cycle path is the "Biggegrill" snack bar, which attracts bikers from near and far.At the yacht and rowing club, our journey takes us westwards to the Lister dam. This was built in 1912. The Lister is a drinking water reservoir that stores 21.6 million m³ of drinking water. Furthermore, the Listersee is dammed higher than the Biggesee, so that you can look down on the Biggesee from the Lister dam wall. From there, the route leads to the Schnütgenhof lido, which is open to the public and invites you to linger. The "Schnütgenhof" farm above the lido offers culinary home cooking as well as coffee and cake. At Schnütgenhof, we take the so-called "Schnütgenhof loop". This gives us a view of the good mermaid of the Biggesee "Attania", who watches over the bird sanctuary of the "Gilberginsel". The only known breeding site of the black kite in the Olpe district is located on the Gilberginsel, also known locally as the Vogelinsel. After the mermaid "Attania" has waved goodbye to us, we continue our circular tour towards Biggedamm. We are greeted by several pieces of sports equipment along the way. The so-called exercise mile was officially opened in 2019. So if you haven't had enough exercise yet, this is the place for you. The different weight variations make a full-body workout possible for all generations. If you want to take it easy, you can swing in the sun by Biggesee. After the exercise mile, we arrive at the boat landing stage in Attendorn. Here we welcome those who have taken the boat back from Sondern to Attendorn. But there is also plenty on offer here for our little ones. A large playground with lots of different climbing opportunities makes children's hearts beat faster. At the end of our round trip, we can take a final break at the lighthouse on the Biggedamm. Here we are served cool drinks and snacks, among other things.
