Way of the Cross in Herzfeld
Way of the Cross in Herzfeld
The Lippeaue is rich in different habitats: the leisurely flowing Lippe, meadows and pastures, dry sandy heaths, tall herbaceous meadows, small forests, ponds, pools and streams. Smooth oat and wet meadows provide a habitat for rare plant species: meadow silau, yellow meadow rue, meadow atlant and small rattle grow here. The higher, sandy river terraces are the realm of specialists: English broom, dwarf feltwort and heather thrive here where other species can no longer cope with the nutrient-poor conditions. Wading birds such as snipe, wood sandpiper or greenshank, ducks such as wigeon or teal and the crane are just some of the numerous species that spend the winter or rest in the Lippeaue during migration.
From the starting point in Herzfeld, head south across the meadows towards Schloss Hovestadt. Cross the Lippe and turn right in Hovestadt onto the "Im Segenkamp" path. After a few meters, continue along the Lippe until you reach the junction at Kesseler. There the path leads north again. You cross the Lippe, at the crossroads the path leads back to Herzfeld.
You can reach Herzfeld via the B 475 if you drive towards Herzfeld from Lippborg or towards Hovestadt from Oestinghausen.
Coming from Hovestadt, you can park at the bridge directly at the entrance to Herzfeld.
