Plettenberg: Museum train tour

Radeln nach Zahlen / Outdooractive Touren / Plettenberg: Museum train tour
The 20 km long circular tour from "Plettenberg Bahnhof" to the "Märkische Museumseisenbahn" and back offers an insight into the former Plettenberg narrow-gauge railroad at numerous points. With a difference in altitude of only 130 m, it is surprisingly flat for the Sauerland, but still offers varied landscapes and the odd small, easy climb.

A small railroad viaduct leads to the route and the stop of the former Plettenberg Kleinbahn. Two further stops of the Märkische Museumseisenbahn are in operation on travel days, as is the lovingly restored Hüinghausen station with museum railroad facilities.

There are many opportunities to take a break on the museum railroad tour. The tour can easily be completed by cyclists of all kinds in two hours. You should allow an extra hour for sightseeing and breaks.

The route is mostly on cycle paths, but also on residential roads and small streets. The tour is recommended for children if they can manage short sections in traffic.

Route description:

The circular tour starts at the train station in Plettenberg. There is a bike store in the small center of Eiringhausen after 100m. After leaving Eiringhausen through a pedestrian tunnel under the railroad, the route follows the Lenne for a while to the Waterkant and then crosses the charming bridge. The tour then briefly runs along the old railroad line of the narrow-gauge railroad to the former stop with café (Café Haltepunkt). From there, the tour joins the Else cycle path, which accompanies the cyclist for a long stretch. In the "Köbbinghauser Hamm" industrial area, the cycle path branches off to the left and after a small hill you reach the terminus of the museum railroad "Haltestelle Köbbinghauser Hammer".

The path continues through the industrial area and along a small road to the village of Köbbinghausen. Afterwards, a picturesque path leads along the museum railroad line to Hüinghausen station of the Märkische Museumseisenbahn and then back to the village of Köbbinghausen, where the cycle tour turns left this time. After a short downhill section, you reach the Seissenschmidt stop on the museum railroad. From there, the cycle path leads past several companies in the forging and scaffolding industry and then runs along the River Else, after a few kilometers the tour leads this time at the foot of the Hestenberg over the old Lenne bridge to Plettenberg station. There you can take a final break with a café or cake.
