The "North Loop" is a section of the cycling route "Steine und Mehr".
The culture and mining landscape of "stones" in the region can be explored on our bike tour. At many stations the visitors receive informative hints.
The aim is to "open the eyes" for the historically developed cultural landscape, starting from an early settlement, the use of fertile soils as well as the extraction and processing of mineral resources, "sharpening the senses" for the earth-historical, geological basis of the topography and landscape structure as well as the natural phenomena of the area, "understanding" the development, the dimensions and the effects of stone mining in the region, "getting to know" the building material green sandstone resp. green limestone, "admiring" the regional building culture as well as the manifold art objects and last but not least "rest and contemplation" in village idyll.
These so-called "KulTour filling stations" are places of "resting and resting", of meeting, learning and orrientation, where the cultural landscape is played upon by the urban landscapes influenced by it. The "KulTour refueling stations" are also arrival and transition points with the possibility to rent bicycles or e-bikes, as well as to get information about the place and the route (e.g. GPS_route information).
"Steine und Mehr" is a project of the Südwestfalen Regionale 2013, supported by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
