At 479 meters above sea level, the Aussichtsturm Wienhagen stands at the highest point of the Wienhagen. It is open all year round at your own risk. The SGV Kierspe section is currently responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the outdoor facilities. After renovation was on the agenda in 2000, the Kierspe artist Werner Baumgart painted the inside of the tower according to the motto Lauf durch die Zeit, creating a real work of art.
The annual tower festival on Ascension Day, organized by the SGV, has been a regular event since 2001. A wooden Aussichtsturm Wienhagen was initially built on the site before being replaced by a concrete tower over the years. It was officially opened on September 29, 1929 by the then mayor of Kierspe, Amtmann Hildebrandt, and served both as a lookout tower and a memorial to the fallen of the First World War.
The Wienhagen tower is approx. 16.32 m high. The viewing platform can be reached via 76 steps.
Wienhagen has always been a prominent point on the border between Westfalen and the Rhineland. The observation tower therefore played a special role in the trigonometric surveying system of North Rhine-Westphalia alongside the church tower of Agathaberg, which can be seen in the west when visibility is good.
