On more than 900 m² of exhibition space, you will be taken on a journey into the depths of the earth, through underground vaults full of crystals to the history of brine, salt and health on the Hellweg. You can extract brine, pump it onto the Gradierwerk or try out how a salt worker went about his trade hundreds of years ago. You will discover the working world of long ago, but also the chemical basis of salt, its cubic crystal structure, which is unique in nature.
Via the "crystal" - it protrudes from the old courtyard building as the defining feature of the exhibition - you will reach the upper floor. Here you will learn more about the effects of salt in the body and discover the surprising uses of this commonplace raw material. Finally, you will have the opportunity to dive into the world of healing and therapy: How and why does brine affect the respiratory tract, what does salt do to our skin, or why does a mud bath actually do us so much good? On the gallery, the exhibition invites you to linger and relax in a fictitious spa world.
