Hiking in the Eder spring area
A beautiful circular trail begins at the "Ederquelle" hiking parking lot with the A 4, where a worthwhile detour awaits you after just a few meters - the Kyrillpfad. Along this trail, you can impressively observe how the storm area develops after the devastating hurricane in 2007. Continuing along the hiking trail, turn left at the next junction, past the source of the Eder, before rejoining the A 4. As far as the geographical center of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, you now walk a short section of the circular route on the Rothaarsteig. After crossing the Eisenstraße, an old trade route that was once used to transport goods such as charcoal, you pass the Krämers Wiese meadow to the nature park jewel "Waldinformationszentrum Forsthaus Hohenroth" with adjoining fallow deer enclosure and café. From there, it is only a few meters back to the starting point. With a total length of around 6 km and few differences in altitude, the A 4 is easy for families to manage. Along the circular trail, there are not only nine audio stations from the Rothaarsteig Association, but also nine educational soil trail information boards, which provide impressive information about the importance of soils. From the hiking parking lot, it is also worth taking a hike along the A 1 (9 km) to the Alte Burg, a former Celtic fortress. Not only will you find peace and quiet there in the beautiful Buchenwald, but you will also experience a beautiful panorama over the Siegerland region on the way there.
From the hiking parking lot, you have various options for exploring the area around the source of the Eder on foot or by bike, including
- Hennen and Frieda: adventure trail for children. More information here.
- Ederradweg: day tours through the Edertal to Bad Berleburg are possible here.
- Siegerland-Höhenring: whether in several day stages or by bike, the Höhering is definitely worth exploring.
- a hike to the Obernautalsperre dam
- an introduction to the eighth stage of the dam trail in the direction of Fischelbach
Not far from the parking lot, you can also join the second stage of the Wittgensteiner Panoramaweg, the Netpher cycle path or the Netphener Rundweg .
