You should also definitely visit the Himmelstreppe at dusk: the illuminated ascent to the dam is simply worth seeing and should not be missed during a visit to Meschede.

There is a drinking fountain at the foot of the Himmelstreppe.
The Himmelstreppe can only be reached on foot.
