The Ruhr springs from the Ruhrkopf, a 696-metre-high mountain, in a small wooded area that is a nature reserve. Below the source, there is a memorial stone and a traffic circle that invites visitors to take a short break. The Ruhr is 219 kilometers long from its source in Winterberg to its mouth in Duisburg. Major trails such as the RuhrtalRadweg and Rothaarsteig lead past the source of the Ruhr.
The Ruhrquellenhütte is just a few minutes' walk from the source. There you can take a break in a cozy atmosphere, go skiing or test the mountain carts.
