On more than 2,500 square meters slate and rocks, folklore and local history with the animals of the forest, former ways of living and working and the economic life in the Sauerland are shown.

Among other things, a printing workshop, textile and flax department, a bookbindery and old knitting machines can be seen.
In the 'Südwestfäliche Galerie' art of the region from the 19th and 20th century is exhibited with collections of Eugen Senge-Platten, Hinrich Grauenhorst, Paul Hermann Schödder, Carl Siebert and many others.
Regularly there are temporary exhibitions in the rooms of the museum on a wide range of topics. Younger guests can become museum explorers with the help of a guide.
