Landscape

Ever cycled around a water town? Then why not start with a circular tour around the "Venice of Westphalia" - and then immerse yourself in the green Lippstadt center. The Lippe, the River of the Year 2018/19, shapes the cityscape with small canals and lakes.

Invitation to refreshment: Lippstadt is crisscrossed by numerous watercourses of the Lippe and is easy to get to know from the water on a canoe tour - or by bike along the banks:

"Experience" the historic town center with its old half-timbered houses and the enchanting "Grüner Winkel" town park.

The cycle path "Around Lippstadt" leads through colorful meadows and flowering fields, through shady forests and green avenues. It connects many Lippstadt districts with the spa town of Bad Waldliesborn and always allows a detour to the attractive city center. You mostly pass the villages on the periphery and experience the nature close to the city at close range.

Various sights give the tour a lot of variety - for example the health resort Bad Waldliesborn, the biotope Brandscheren pond or the Cappel monastery, a former women's convent with a convent church. Of Hellinghausen Castle, another destination on the route, only the so-called Junkernschloss, a gatehouse made of half-timbering and quarry stone that is now inhabited, remains today. The route continues to Schwarzenraben Castle and the "Free Chair", where a free court met in the Middle Ages. For nature lovers, the Lippeaue with its renaturalized river landscape is a highlight of the circular route: with a little luck, wild horses, Heck cattle and rare bird species (kingfisher, rattling stork, etc.) can be observed from various vantage points.

This circular route is signposted in both directions and can of course be started at any stage point: Logo and green arrow means left around, logo and red arrow means right around.
