The 50-hectare fen between the confluence of the Ahse and Woestebach rivers represents one of the last remaining calcareous fens in the region. The varied mosaic of shallow water and flood zones with ponds, reed beds and wet grassland has developed into an important habitat for animals and plants, a real magnet for birds. The observation point allows a fantastic view into the bird life and the imposing water buffaloes that keep the area open.
The region around Bad Sassendorf is characterized by its largely flat and yet varied, attractive landscape and offers the ideal conditions for relaxed cycling. Here you will cycle through the fertile Börd landscape with its farmsteads and old villages, through colorful meadows, along idyllic river courses and discover, in addition to the wonderful nature, old alleys with historic half-timbered houses in typical Westphalian style.
The "North Loop" takes you to the Bad Sassendorf districts of Bettinghausen and Ostinghausen and the "Woeste" moorland and nature reserve in the middle of it all. Here a look through the binoculars is worthwhile!
The tour leads back in a larger arc along the Ahse and the outskirts of Soest. After the bike tour, the cafés and restaurants, the saltwater spa and the spa gardens invite you to relax, or you can discover the secrets of the white gold in the Westphalian Salt Worlds adventure museum.
The Bad Sassendorf North Loop can also be ideally combined with the South Loop.
