Diemelsee-St. Muffert tour

Radeln nach Zahlen / Outdooractive Touren / Diemelsee-St. Muffert tour

There are two absolute highlights on this medium-difficulty tour: the trail-rich ride over the Eimberg Grenzkamm and the deep blue Diemelsee. After a break at the lake, the route undulates through fields and woodland back to Willingen.

This tour is a wonderful alternative to the signposted tour no. 30 from Willingen. A medium-difficulty tour with a high proportion of trails and great views. A real dream for fit touring fans.

Directions

The tour leads towards the end of the village past the REWE Markt/Lidl supermarkets up to the Hoher Eimberg. There we follow the border between NRW and Hessen on a beautiful hilly trail to the Hukeshohl farm. Here we leave tour no. 1 and continue up the mountain range in the direction of Diemelsee. We cross the main Bontkirchen/Hoppecke road and continue uphill. When the gravel path goes slightly downhill, we leave the path and keep right onto a trail. We follow this straight ahead until we come to an open field on the left. The next crossroads is Buttenberg, where we turn left for 20 m and then right again past a refuge, still staying at the top. At the next junction, take a gravel road up to the right and then a long descent down to the foot of the Diemel dam. On the fast descent, you can catch your first glimpse of the Diemelsee. We cross the small reservoir and cycle up the serpentine X-path. On the way, we have a great panoramic trail along the precipice with a view of the lake. Another Grenzweg takes us to the St.Muffert refuge. At the hut, we keep left, the trail widens and just before we reach fields, a singletrail downhill leads down to the lake by an electricity pylon. We cycle through the village of Heringhausen to get to the other side of the lake and ride along the lake. There is an old railing on the right. Then a path leads up to the left at a small Winkeln, running almost parallel and only slowly moving away from Diemelsee. We follow it straight ahead until we cross a road again at the top. We now take a leisurely criss-cross route up to the Dommel tower, then back to the parking lot at the Dommel tower and cycle back above the Diemeltal through the Aartal to Willingen-Stryck.
