Landscape

Hemer is characterized by its densely wooded landscape, divided by valleys, and more than half of the 67.5 square kilometer urban area consists of forest. Nevertheless, Hemer is primarily an industrial town. Adapted to the requirements of the market, Hemer products can also hold their own internationally. Wire processing machines from Hemer are just as much in demand around the world
as fittings from Grohe or Kaja and bathroom design from Keuco. Hemer has recently become the center for safety and disaster control technology (ZSK). The ZSK-HEMER offers companies and research institutions from the fields of "internal security" and "disaster control" the opportunity to settle at a central location in order to carry out research in a network.
With the 2010 State Garden Show, Hemer provided the answer to the question of the future-oriented transformation of the site of the former Blücher barracks.

Information

Directions

Starting at Haus Hemer, we cycle along Geitbecke Street towards the city center. To do this, we cross the Bundesstraße 7 at the traffic lights using the crosswalks. From the main road, turn left up the Ebberg via Kirchstraße. The Ebberg church is on the right-hand side. The listed building was erected between 1819 and 1820 under the direction of Johann Hermann Stindt from Hemer. We now head back down Kirchstraße, where the street name changes twice, first to Ebberg and then to Mozartstraße. We turn into Höcklingser Weg and immediately left again over the level crossing into Bräuckerstraße. We then turn right into Schützenstraße. After crossing Urbecker Straße, we turn diagonally left into Am Haseloh, then take the second right into Amselweg and finally left into Drosselweg, which merges into Lerchenstraße. On the left is the site of the 2010 State Garden Show (former Blücher barracks). We follow the course of Lerchenstraße, then turn right into Jübergstraße and at its end turn left into Am Langeloh. We turn diagonally right into the street Am Perick. The Jewish cemetery is located here on the left-hand side. After about 600 m, turn diagonally left up the cave path (push); the Heinrichshöhle cave is on the left. The stalactite cave, which is over 300 m long and has distinctive river cave profiles and crevices and fissures over 20 meters high, is well worth a visit. From the Heinrichshöhle we continue straight ahead into the Felsenmeerstraße and finally reach the Felsenmeer. Here you have the option of taking the circular route through the Felsenmeer on foot. The bizarre rocky landscape on the approximately 12.9-hectare area, which is a nature reserve, was created by karstification and cave collapse as well as centuries of iron ore mining. Our cycle tour continues down Felsenmeerstraße to Hönnetalstraße, then turns right into In den Weide. At Alberts Mühle, the only watermill in the Märkischer Kreis, we turn left over a bridge and then right back onto Hönnetalstraße. We pass the Felsenmeermuseum (local history museum in the Villa Grah, built in 1902) and the Altes Amtshaus, which now houses the municipal music school. At the crossroads, turn left into Hauptstraße and follow the cycle path to Fichtestraße. Turn right into this street and then left into Am Heßufer, which we follow parallel to the Westig stream. Now turn right into Wittekindstraße and then straight on across the crossroads into Lohstraße, which we follow until we reach the memorial on the left. At the memorial, turn right into Iserlohn Straße until you reach the town exit sign; at the exit sign, turn diagonally right onto a descent and then right onto the cycle path towards Hemer past the Duloh recreation area. From here, you can take a detour to the left to the war cemetery. On the Mühlenweg, you leave the Duloh, turn left into Von-Eichendorff-Weg and straight ahead into Albert-Schweitzer-Straße. We ride past the Woeste grammar school with the bust of the school's namesake until we reach Feldstraße, cross it and enter Friedenspark. Now turn right onto the cycle path parallel to Parkstraße and then right again onto Mühlackerweg. The Pushkin Monument is on the right-hand side of the Friedenspark. We turn left into An der Steinert, ride down the hill to Neuer Markt with the stele. At Neuer Markt, we turn left into Hauptstraße. We pass the town library and the town gate and return to the starting point via Hauptstraße and Geitbecke.
