There are two larger and several smaller mountains to cycle up. The tour is perfect for mountain bikers and pedelecs, but can also be ridden by experienced touring cyclists. Mostly asphalt, only short forest paths acceptable for touring bikes. With a length of 63 km and several meters in altitude, this is a longer and more challenging tour.
The tour is recommended for older children if they are well trained and used to hills with climbs and can ride short sections on country roads.
The tour can be cycled in 5 hours. There are many opportunities to take breaks, for which you should plan an additional 1, or better 2 hours. 95% of the tour is on asphalt paths (cycle paths and smaller roads), the 2 forest path sections are suitable for touring bikes. The tour is not suitable for racing cyclists.
Route description:
The circular tour starts at the Plettenberger KulTour GmbH office in the heart of Plettenberg, near the pedestrian zone. Here you can stop for refreshments in the ice cream parlors or cafés. You then cycle directly into the Grünetal valley and along the Grüne up to Landemert. A short break with a motivational drink is recommended at the Gasthof Käsebrink. Refreshed, the route continues uphill to a ridge with a unique view of Landemert - here a comfortable bench invites you to take a breather. The route then continues through beautiful landscapes to the village of Hülschotten and on towards Ennest. The long, beautiful descent to Ennest and Attendorn begins at the start of the forest.
In Attendorn, the tour runs just past the Altstadt, where you can take a break. After crossing the country road and the railroad tracks, the cycle path leads into the Biggetal valley towards the Biggetal dam. Once you reach the dam wall, cyclists are treated to a beautiful view over the Biggesee and the Biggesee overflow is also worth noting. Along the lake, you pass the Waldenburger Bucht lido and reach the upper basin of the Biggen (junction 19). This is where the ascent over the mountain into the Repetal begins, rewarding cyclists with a fantastic panoramic view. In the Repetal, you will find hotels with upscale restaurants and a number of beautiful half-timbered houses. The cycle path follows the Repe until it flows into the Lenne.
Along the Lenne, you pass the Bamenohl run-of-river power station and the "Haus Bamenohl" castle. The route then continues via the village of Bamenohl to the small town of Finnentrop, which invites you to linger with its beautiful promenade. After the village of Lenhausen comes the small village of Pasel with several small, lovingly renovated half-timbered houses. We recommend taking a break at the former Pasel village school (note opening times). The last reserves of energy can then be used up on the ride to the Schwarzenberg castle ruins. The flat path then leads into Plettenberg. After the tour, you can enjoy a well-earned refreshment in one of the many cafés, ice cream parlors and restaurants in Plettenberg.
