The tour offers a variety of (historical) monuments and other cultural and historical highlights. Most of these are marked with history boards from the Plettenberg History Trail, which explain the historical events.
There are four hills to conquer on the Plettenberg history tour. However, there are many opportunities to take a break. The tour can be cycled by pedelecs and mountain bikes in a good 3 to 4 hours (no breaks included). Even experienced touring cyclists can ride the route, 98% of which is on asphalt paths, without a battery. The tour is not suitable for racing cyclists. You should allow at least 1 to 2 hours extra for sightseeing and breaks.
The route passes a number of interesting places that cannot be reached exclusively on cycle paths. Please observe the road traffic regulations - there are a few isolated places where cycling is not permitted and must be pushed. The tour is recommended for children if they are used to hills and can cycle short sections on country roads.
Route description:
The circular tour starts at the Plettenberger KulTour GmbH office in the heart of Plettenberg near the pedestrian zone. Here you can stop for refreshments in the ice cream parlors or cafés right at the start. Then it's a leisurely cycle along the Elsebach stream to where it flows into the Lenne. The route continues along the Lenne cycle path. The first ascent is to be mastered to reach the "Burg" district. The route then continues towards Ohl and over the bridge at the Ohl weir for several kilometers upstream along the Lenne. This is followed by the next ascent to the Schwarzenberg castle ruins. The route then follows a hilly route to the village of Pasel. Now it's time to conquer the mountain to the Sehnsuchtsbirke. Here you can enjoy beautiful views over the Lenne valley and the Sieselschleife with its historic hydroelectric power station. The view from the Sehnsuchtsbirke over Plettenberg is fantastic, and a rest stop is also recommended here. The route then continues to the Oestertalsperre and then back towards Plettenberg town center via the model airfield. Before returning to the starting point of the tour, it is worth taking a look at St. Laurentius Church and Böhler Church. After the tour, you can reward yourself in one of the surrounding restaurants, cafés or ice cream parlors.
