The mountain starts at a leisurely pace at the junction of the secondary route to Winterberg in Schmallenberg-Oberkirchen. There are plenty of nice opportunities here to replenish your energy reserves before the climb. The route first follows the young Lenne upstream.
After the small village of Inderlenne, you stay on this road. It would also be possible to cycle to Winbterberg via Nordenau. However, there tends to be more traffic here and the pace is much faster. Further up the Lenne you reach the chic village of Westfeld. In winter there is a cross-country skiing center here. Here we leave the Lenne and the mountain really begins.
Via Ohlenbach, the narrow road winds its way uphill until just below the Kahler Asten at the "Sahnehang" ski slope. Turn right here and after 200 meters turn right again following the signs to the Kahler Asten. After around 1 kilometer, you have reached the summit and thus the highest point in North Rhine-Westphalia that can be reached by road bike.
Oberkirchen - Inderlenne - Westfeld - Ohlenbach - Kahler Asten
