Tourist Information Winterberg in the Oversum
Cyclists should be somewhat fit to master NRW's second highest mountain. Those who have made it are not only proud - as a reward, spectacular panoramas almost like in the Alps beckon on the Kahlen Asten. On the summit, the bizarre landscape of the Hochheide stretches out. Guests visit the meteorological observatory, visit the exhibition of the LWL Museum für Landeskunde and climb the branch tower.
The tour continues through extensive forest areas to Züschen. Then the cyclists follow a former railroad line and enjoy railroad romance. Hallenberg is worth a longer stay: there is so much to experience there! Guests admire crystal-clear sculptures in the ice house, explore the museum in the impressive half-timbered gabled house "Kump" and, with a bit of luck, try stone-baked bread in the old bakehouse. During the play season, a visit to the open-air theater is fun!
Via Hesborn and extensive forest passages, the path finally leads back to Winterberg - in the "luggage" many wonderful impressions of the country and its people.
We start at the tourist information in Winterberg and drive along the shopping street "Am Waltenberg" in the direction of the town hall on Fichtenweg. We stay on the Fichtenweg and pass the barracks on the right at the end. At the crossroads we cross the main road and cycle left along Kurweg in the direction of Altastenberg. On the northern slope we meet the L 640 and follow the road uphill. After a few hundred meters we turn diagonally left and cycle uphill to the summit. The panorama and the high heath landscape invite you to linger. We now orient ourselves at the parking lot in front of us and follow the signs of the Sauerland-Höhenflug. After a short stretch we reach the As4, which we follow downhill to the Landwehr refuge. We cycle downhill along the tarred road to Helleplatz and cross the main road. From there we cycle along the W3 through an extensive forest landscape in the direction of Züschen. There we cross the river Ahre and follow the GeoRadroute over a former railroad line to Hallenberg. In Hallenberg we turn left onto the R49 to Hesborn. At the end we turn left on the country road then in the left curve right again on the W2. At first we have to cope with a decent climb. In the forest, however, the climb flattens out somewhat and we follow the W2 over an extensive forest passage to Winterberg.
Winterberg is easily accessible by train and the tourist information is only a few hundred meters from the station.
Winterberg can be reached via the main roads 480 and 236.
