The Burghof, a former patrician residence in the center of the Hanseatic town of Soest, is home to the Romanesque House (around 1200), the Manor House (1559) and the Daelen Gate (1551). The Romanesque House, built around 1200 as part of an originally larger building, is considered one of the oldest preserved secular residential buildings in Westfalen. The exterior of the late Gothic/Renaissance manor house is largely unchanged, while the interior has undergone historical alterations. The Knights' Hall in the basement houses remarkable stucco reliefs from the construction period, which were added in 1939 by the sculptor Wilhelm Wulff.

The Daelen gate is named after the former owner family von Dael. The town history museum in the castle courtyard complex presents exhibitions on the town and church history on several floors. These include copperplate engravings by Heinrich Aldegrever (1502 to approx. 1555) and a presentation of "Everyday life in the Middle Ages". The Department of Prehistory and Early History highlights the famous "Garnet Disc Brooch", which comes from the early medieval burial ground on the Lübeck Ring. Other exhibits include the last abbess's chair from the St. Walburgis monastery and finds from the Paradiese monastery. In addition, the site offers a visitable air-raid shelter trench from 1943. The Knights' Hall also functions as a prestigious venue for municipal receptions and as a wedding room.
