It focuses on both current art production and its roots and follows the exciting changes in artistic themes and strategies, the interrelationships and references. The museum aims to promote and increase understanding and fascination for the world of art. It sees itself as equally committed to art and the public.
An important focus of the museum is the permanently exhibited Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection, which has large representative groups of works by all artists who have received the Rubens Prize from the city of Siegen since 1955/1957. To date, there are thirteen Rubens Prize winners: Hans Hartung (1957), Giorgio Morandi (1962), Francis Bacon (1967), Antoni Tàpies (1972), Fritz Winter (1977), Emil Schumacher (1982), Cy Twombly (1987), Rupprecht Geiger (1992), Lucian Freud (1997), Maria Lassnig (2002), Sigmar Polke (2007), Bridget Riley (2012) and Niele Toroni (2017).
The private collection was created in the 1990s in connection with the founding of the museum and has since grown to a total of more than 300 works, including paintings, drawings, prints, as well as some photographs and sculptural works, thanks to lively collecting activity.
Young artists can find a playful approach to modern art with the Rubi museum zebra in the accompanying booklet. There are creative activities for children of all ages to discover.
