"I wish I was a chicken"... at the Kapplermühle organic farm at the foot of the Rothaargebirge mountains, it's not just chickens that have a good time: scratching, clucking, pecking, bathing in the sand. However, it all started with cattle in 2002.
If you take a little time, you can experience how cattle originally lived - in a herd of mother cows and young animals. They spend six to eight hours grazing forwards in herds across the Weide. Species-appropriate and careful animal husbandry, gentle rearing, feed that is one hundred percent organic and organically farmed pastures symbolize the farm's farming methods.
Gradually, chickens, hens and geese have been added to the cattle. Not only do they all live a "happy" and species-appropriate life, they are also EU-certified organic, just like the cattle, and are raised according to the guidelines of the "Bioland Association". The poultry peck at the green pastures - covering around 8000 square meters - surrounding the farmhouse. A picture, almost like in the old days. In contrast to conventionally fattened geese, some of which are slaughtered after just 80 days, the organic geese live for at least 140 days.
Poultry and other products can be purchased at the farm on Thursdays and Fridays. They can also be purchased every first Saturday at the organic market in Kreuztal and at the weekly markets in Hilchenbach and Kreuztal.
