The M5 cycle route takes us around the old Hanseatic town of Medebach. We start in the idyllic village of Glindfeld with its old monastery walls and pedal pool and cycle through the Glindfeld forest. Near Deifeld, you can discover the historic milestone "Op me Krüze" on the old Heidenstraße. The route leads through open fields and along the edges of the forest through the Hallebachtal valley to Oberschledorn. The artists' village invites you to stop off at the KUMA art and culture center.

We cross the NRW state border into neighboring Hessen, where we pass the village of Hillershausen and finally discover the picturesque Aartal. From Münden, we cycle along the babbling Orke towards Medebach and then through the Gelängebachtal valley to the starting point in Glindfeld.

The tour is suitable for touring bikes, better gravel bikes, MTB/E-MTB, as some of the paths are gravel.

Directions

The circular cycle route is signposted throughout with a green "M5".The actual circular route starts in Glindfeld. Of course, you can also join the tour from Deifeld, Oberschledorn, Hillershausen or Münden.Directions from Medebach:From the tourist information center in Medebach, we first cycle on the green "M1" to Glindfeld. From here, we follow the actual route, the M5, initially on a bumpy forest path approx. 3 km uphill (sometimes pushing!) to the "Am Steinberg" parking lot on the Medebach-Küstelberg road. Now head through the Hallebachtal valley, first on rough gravel, then on tar up to the old Deifeld sports field "Auf der Höhe". Then south past the "Platte", steeply down into the Hallebachtal and on through the valley to Oberschledorn. Here you can stop off at the KUMA art and culture center with its museum café (note opening times!)Continue on the M5 past Langeln to the Doppelkreuz (from here you can also take the M4 to Medebach if you want to shorten the tour). Turn left and after 500 m, behind a barn, turn right. We stay on the tarred road and continue downhill to Hillershausen. On the Hillershausen-Medebach road, we turn right for approx. 100 m and then left onto a tarred field path. We follow this path to the left into the Aartal valley to the Aarmühle mill.In the picturesque Aartal, we cycle downstream to the barbecue hut before Münden. From here, first slightly uphill and then downhill to Münden. Here we reach the lowest point of the M5 cycle route (325 m). We stay in the Orketal until we reach the Mittelmühle mill, past Ronninghausen, and turn right here into the valley of the Gelängebach stream. Via a beautiful valley path, we reach the landfill site of the town of Medebach, turn left for 100 m to the Glindfeld-Medelon road, which we then follow to the right, slightly uphill, to Glindfeld. If you like, you can refresh yourself here at the pedal pool. The M1 cycle path leads us back to Medebach.

Safty guidelines

The route is not suitable for racing bikes!Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequencesThe forest owners are endeavoring to take the necessary measures in the forests and to remove the damaged wood. However, due to the extent of the damage, this work cannot be completed in a short space of time. The clearing and reforestation of the damaged forest stands will therefore take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detour in the forests. This must always be taken into account when visiting the forest. We therefore appeal to everyone who cares about the forest:Understand that extensive forestry work is necessary in the current situation and that this is currently accompanying your forest experience.Be particularly attentive during your leisure activities and observe the prevailing instructions and any prohibitionsPlease be considerate ...
