Neuenrade
The over 650-year-old town lies at the foot of the Kohlberg in the upper Hönnetal. Nestled in a flat valley surrounded by forests and mountains, Neuenrade is a paradise for all hikers. With a wide range of options - from short circular hiking trails to the "Sauerland Höhenflug" long-distance hiking trail - there is something for everyone here.
However, the small town not only has a wide range of activities for hikers, but also for many other active people, ranging from horse riding, mountain biking and flying in a glider or motorized aircraft to swimming, tennis, skating and even skiing. Neuenrade also has a wide range of restaurants and accommodation options in hotels, guesthouses and vacation apartments to suit a variety of requirements.
Neuenrade's townscape is characterized by the parallel streets in the town center with many listed half-timbered houses. The late Gothic Antwerp folding altar in the parish church in the Affeln district is just as well known beyond the town boundaries as the racing kiln.
Neuenrade outdoor pool

The Neuenrade outdoor warm-water pool is situated in a scenic location in the east of Neuenrade.

Directions

From the station, the route leads westwards to the next junction. There the path climbs up the "Landwehr". Taking the second road on the left ("Am Semberg") and then cycling a few meters up "Lange Gasse", you reach a signposted cycle path around Neuenrade. The tour leads westwards into the street "Hinter der Stadt". However, it is worth not only riding "Hinter der Stadt", but also taking a look at the lovingly restored old town with its parallel streets and historic farmhouses and crossing the main road to visit the "Auf dem Wallen" park with its 900-year-old lime tree and the newly created history trail. Crossing the L 698 country road to Dahle, you reach the "Beuler Weg". From here, the route climbs steadily. After the residential area, you can now enjoy the section up to the "One Oak" - a saddle from which you can enjoy a wide view at an altitude of 454 m - car-free.The path passes the Hönnequelle. At an altitude of 437 m, this river, which gives the Hönnetal its name, rises at the Großer Attig. This spring is a so-called starvation spring, i.e. when the groundwater level falls below the level of the outlet, the spring dries up. A man-sized copper stele illustrates the course of the Hönne. After "Einen Eiche", you can let your bike roll as far as "Wieser Weg". Continue to "Altenaer Straße" and via the B229 main road, the tour branches off into "Haller Weg" and then into "Südstraße", from where there is another panoramic view across the Lenne valley to Nordhelle. Here, the cycle path touches the "Sauerland-Höhenflug", which was named runner-up among the long-distance hiking trails in Germany this year. On quiet side roads, the route leads mainly downhill on the southern edge of Neuenrade until you cross the B229 main road again. In between, you can turn right at the "An der Leye" / "Jahnstraße" / "Im Glocken" junction to reach the forest stadium and the start of the forest adventure trail.Continue downhill to the next turning on the right, through the industrial area to "Hüttenweg" and downhill again to the outdoor pool. The path then climbs up the "Schütteloher Weg" to the "Landwehr". From there, it is worth taking a detour to the Rennofen, which is located approx. 600 meters to the north. This kiln is the best-preserved kiln in the Sauerland region and dates back to the 13th century. The kiln is made of clay and loam and has a hearth diameter of 50 cm and a shaft height of 80 cm, but probably had an original height of around 130 - 150 cm. The tour then leads down the "Lange Gasse" to the street "Am Semberg" and then back to "Bahnhofstraße" or down the "Landwehr" to "Bahnhofstraße". A few meters to the east you reach the train station again.
