The M6 cycle tour leads through the half-timbered villages of the old Hanseatic town of Medebach, with plenty to discover!
This quite challenging half-day tour through the Tuscany of the Sauerland is ideal for cyclists in good physical condition and e-bike (E-MTB) riders. This circular tour can be started from any part of the town.
The first 15 km lead us mainly through the fields and meadows of Medebach Bay, which provides a habitat for many rare animal and plant species. Those interested in culture should take a look at the baroque church of St. John the Evangelist, built in 1699, in Berge, the smallest village in the area, with its pictures of the apostles from the former Glindfeld monastery. In Dreislar, the barite museum is waiting to be discovered (note opening times!) and if the weather is nice, you can cool your feet in the treading pool at the "Im Schwinkel" wellness rest area, where you can enjoy pure relaxation!
In the Orketal village of Medelon, you can take a short break at the hiking parking lot or in one of the restaurants before continuing through the picturesque Orketal nature reserve and through the Vildischer Grund towards Elkeringhausen. After that, it gets strenuous as we pedal through the Elkeringhausen forest up to 666 m to Medebach's highest district, Küstelberg. Here, in the center of the village, we immediately notice the oldest house in the village, Haus Ewers. The route continues through the nature reserves "Oberes Dittelsbachttal" and "Wissinghauser Heid", as well as through quiet wooded areas to Titmaringhausen. The Fresenhof dating from 1768 with its granary from 1708 is a beautiful sight here.
In Referinghausen, the Open Mind Places invite you to pause and unwind, for example at Sonnenklang! In the woodturning village of Düdinghausen, you can look over the shoulders of woodturners as they work their ancient craft in the Pastorenscheune Heimathaus (note opening times!). In the KUMA culture and painting center in Oberschledorn, you can visit the exhibition of the Bergenthal family of church painters as well as the cosy art café with all kinds of treats (note opening times).
The babbling brook accompanies us as we cycle through the romantic Aartal valley from Eppe to Münden and enjoy the beauty of nature.
There are various places to stop for refreshments along the way. An overview of the restaurants can be found on the Medebach tourist information website.
The M6 circular tour can be started from all villages in the city area. The route is signposted with the green M6.From the market square, we first follow the M2 circular cycle route (green M2 markings) into Niederstraße, Hallenberg Straße, Brüggerweg, then follow the route out of the residential area to the country road, where we turn left onto the M5 cycle route (green M5 markings) to Roninghausen, where the actual route begins. From here, follow the green M6 trail markings throughout. The path first leads us to Berge and then on to Dreislar and Medelon. From Medelon through the picturesque Orketal valley, past the Kaltenscheidt forester's lodge and the ruins of the Wernsdorf church to Elkeringhausen. The strenuous ascent up to Küstelberg starts here, always following the green M6. The tour continues towards Wissinghausen, past the weekend house settlement above the village, further uphill to the hut "Am grünen Stoß" and then downhill to Titmaringhausen. We continue along the country road through Referinghausen up to Düdinghausen. There, from the church, downhill to the Medebach-Usseln road and uphill on the left. Before the Aussiedlerhof, we turn right onto the dirt road, always following the M6. The next destination is Oberschledorn. We continue to the heights near Langeln and turn left at the double cross. We pass Österwiesen and reach Eppe. From here, we continue through the Aartal, following the M3 and M5 to Münden. We reach the starting point in Roninghausen through the Orketal.
The tour is not suitable for racing bikes!
