The castle of the princely family of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg is located in the historic Altstadt. The house has been inhabited by the same family for more than 750 years. The castle park with its enchanting orangery, large ponds and colorful flowerbeds invites you to linger. Cycle uphill through Berleburg's Oberstadt past princely forests. You should also plan a stop at the "Golden Egg" sculpture. This special work of art is part of the "Forest Sculpture Trail", which is unique in Germany.
The cycle tour starts at the train station in Bad Berleburg. The first stage takes you up to the Altstadt with the castle. This is where the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg royal family lives. After cycling a few meters through the beautiful Oberstadt, you descend behind the castle park through the Berlebach stream. Turn left, passing the Odebornklinik and the Rothaarbad. After passing the Rothaarbad, you reach the Eder cycle path, which you follow in a westerly direction.Cycle past Berghausen railroad station and reach the mouth of the Trufte. Follow the course of the stream for several kilometers through the woods. At first the path is gentle, but towards the end it climbs steeply up the hill for a short distance. The effort should be worth it, because once you reach the top, you will see the "Golden Egg" in the middle of nature as one of the heavyweights on the "WaldSkulpturenWeg" art trail. Here you should take the time for a short detour to the eye-catching work of art 700 meters away. The route leads back downhill to the Altstadt and the train station. A number of different restaurants and cafés line the route. Once back in the city, the circular route ends at the train station.
